This journal is now friends only
Comment on this entry to be added. (don't worry - I'm not picky!)

My only request is that you be over the age of 18.

<

I'm a librarian who loves classic literature and gothic horror.

I also dig anime and fan fiction, (including yaoi and slash).

Music-wise I’m pretty diverse – I like everything from disco, 60s psychedelic to techno, industrial, ethereal, EBM, classical, even some old school hip hop (especially Tribe Called Quest…but then, how can you NOT dig Tribe?).

I also love classic horror movies (anything with Bela, Vincent, Peter, Boris, Lon (Sr.)).

I also like to hit scifi/fantasy conventions, because it's such a relief to know there are people out there as oddball as I am LOL!

Also love anything fantasy, especially fairies, dragons, unicorns, castles, witches, wizards, you name it!

Like to go clubbing, especially on ‘old wave nights’….

Also like to collect doujinshi (Japanese fan comics), even though I can't read Japanese at ALL - would love to learn, though.....

What else? I'm a Wiccan and recovering Catholic. Am very liberal/progressive. And a HUGE MST3K fan :) !

So, feel free to comment and friend away - I always enjoy meeting new people (18 and up only, please! Some things I write, namely yaoi fan fiction, are not suitable for minors. Sorry!)

And I change my layout every week (sometimes every other day, ha). There are so many talented graphic artists out there!

(However, all homophobes, racists, chauvanists, religious fundamentalists and meanies in general can go elsewhere.....)

Nice to meet you!

Okay randomly checked my friendsfriends page and your entry popped up, first of all, you are a friend of Lamasu.. that instantly makes you made of awesome and win.. secondly yay for doujinshi, I have a stack of my own, they make for amusing browsings (can't read them either, but that's alright, because a picture usually is worth a thousand words) so anyways that being said, may I add you?

Well I'm an equal opportunist... I adore het and yuri as well, but I've a special fondness for male/male since its' really what got me started into the whole fandom thing in general. *heh's* But yay nice to meet you!

Oh yes, I have those het pairings that I just can't resist.. like Edge/Rydia from Final Fantasy, I'm also a big sucker for Rukia/Byakuya from Bleach and then let's see.. ummm.. oh yes it's from a manga series but Leo/Eshild from the manga series Princess. Those really are like my current big ones.

But yes, yaoi is nice.. I really just have too many favorite pairings to list.. I tend to like the hot headed girl and the slightly clueless guy, that's my favorite dynamic.. but then we always have favorites!

Yuri, it took me a while to get into yuri because at first when I entered it, I thought it seemed very.. male dominated, then I realized I was in the wrong fandoms. *heh's*

Yes, the hot-headed girl and clueless guy are always adorable! Or the cute-but-lecherous guy and warrior gal (Sango and Miroku) :)

I haven't watched much of Final Fantasy. I remember seeing a FF movie in Japanese sans subtitles awhile ago. A friend knew Japanese so he was able to translate. Really amazing.

I haven't seen much Bleach, but it looks interesting...

I know what you mean about yaoi - gosh, especially Captain Tsubasa or Dragonball Z (lately it's been all about Genzo Wakabayashi x Karl Heinz-Schneider from CT). :)

Circe Nightshade[info]dee_groovy on July 29th, 2008 08:14 pm (UTC)
Ok, I know grammar, really XD
Although I'm a HUGE yaoi fan, there are some het couples I just adore - like Inuyasha x Kagome (they're too cute!)

I also like Vegeta and Videl from Dragonball Z (not a couple I see too often in fanfic, but I think they'd be perfect for each other, since they're a couple of spitfires :)

I'm not really into yuri (haven't read any, actually) but if I think about it, Kagome x Sango would make a cute couple.

Seeing your icons and that you have a Monkees "Friends Only" banner, I knew you were a pretty cool person. :)

Recovering Catholic, yeah, I've told people that, myself. I'm more or less at Unitarian Universalist, but with heavy Wiccan, Buddhist and Transcendentalist leanings! LOL! I know, an enigma, but why be predicatable?

MST3K, oh God, how I MISS that show. The movie killed me, too. "Shatner, Shatner, nope, no Shatner in this one, we're safe!"

I'm running away from LJ in April, when my paid account is up. It was time to move on, plus, several friends and I noticed that since it was bought by Russians, all of a sudden, we'd get these Russian people NONE of us knew friending our journals. We'd try to start up a dialogue and either: A. they'd not answer us back, or B. they would, but in Russian. WTF? Other oddities, too, but it was just time.

I write some wild fic, too, but I have that in a seperate journal under my alter-ego, [info]amyurban. Nice to meet you. I think we are going to get along just fine!

Circe Nightshade[info]dee_groovy on February 18th, 2009 11:07 am (UTC)
aw, thanks :D

I read your profile - I LOVE those old Victorian homes! I've fallen in love with the Victorian era totally, as well as the 1920s.

That is weird, I've heard about people getting those Russian friend adds, but I think they might be spam or something...But yeah, I'm letting my paid time lapse, too. I just didn't like how they treated their employees - laid off their entire design team with NO severence pay? That's just low...

Fortunately, a few people on my flist have opened up journals here, too :) While it's nice to have a little more activity over here, I'd hate for LJ to go under and all those people crowd up IJ, you know?

HA! That's one of my favorite MST3Ks :D I also love 'Beast of Yucca Flats', Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, but my favorites are definitely the shorts, especially 'Out of this world' XD

Cool, I'll check out your journal.

Glad to have ya - adding you now! ;)

WHAT? They laid off the entire design team with no severance? AGGGHHHH!!! Okay, now I'm REALLY glad I'm going. I keep trying to get more of my LJ friends here, but oh well. At least I've got a few. I guess that will be enough. But hey, gives me more of a chance to make some new one's here.

I'll have to go and take some pictures of some of the Victorian's when the weather gets nice and I can walk "normally" again. Damned Degenerative Arthritis has been a bear this Winter. Every year in my town, Forest Grove, they have tours of the old Victorians and it's lead by a group of local historians that know all about the houses history, who lived there, etc. I would not be surprised if even a few of them were haunted. But hey, that's cool. As long as they are not the "evil" kind, I can deal.

Me, hubby and child once lived in an old Victorian cottage for a few years. The only reason we moved was we were renting it and the landlady was INSANE! I'll have to dig around and find the pictures of the place. It was really cool, a bit on the tiny side, since it was only a cottage, but it was built in 1890. That house had so much character. I LOVED IT!

Circe Nightshade: foggy night woods[info]dee_groovy on February 19th, 2009 11:04 am (UTC)
I know, I'm trying to get more people over here, too :) IJ's like a best kept secret. It's not as busy as LJ, but it's cool :)

what was really messed up about the LJ layoffs, was people who commented on the announcement, saying how wrong it was to let people go w/out severence pay (which is good) got replies by these JERKS who were saying that practice is common in the IT industry. That's just wrong, man...makes me feel good about spending my money here!

Those tours sound so interesting! They have something like that here in Tampa. There's a neighorhood called Seminole Heights which as all these really charming older houses, mostly from the 1920s, but some older. We used to rent a bungalow in South Seminole Heights, built in 1923. It was so cute! It had the wood floors in the dining room, the kitchen had checkerboard floors :) We would have bought it, but it would have cost a lot to update - it had NO insulation whatsoever. Our utility bills were ridiculously high. I wish I had taken pictures of it, though.

Here's a web site on the neighborhood where you can see pictures: http://seminoleheights.com/

oh gosh, cooky landlords...had one of those! or rather a bitchy apathetic apartment landlord...

but that house sounds awesome! :D

So what if it's common in the IT business to not give severance pay. It still sucks what happened to the LJ staff. Many common business practices that go on today sicken me, but just because they are common and go on does not make them right. Some people just don't get it, do they?

Wow! The Seminole Heights area looks a lot like many of the historic areas in my town. I love it! :)

I don't know what it is about old homes. I guess it's that they look so much more inviting than newer one's and the craftsmanship back then was just unreal. So was the landscaping and I love to garden and enjoy lovely trees, flowers and plants.

Here is a link to my town, Forest Grove, Oregon. This is of their historic districts in town. As you can see, our downtown is just FULL of old, historic buildings, too, so it's not just several neighborhoods that still have them. Where I live in town is near the Southside District. I am off of 13th and Elm st., but you can see that a few of the beautiful historic homes are just down the street or around a corner or two of me:

http://www.forestgrove-or.gov/city-government/historic-landmarks-board-historic-neighborhoods.html

Some of my very favorite homes, though, are in the Clark district. I've gotten a few pictures of some of my faves and put them up in my Photobucket album:

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v189/youngun39/Forest%20Grove%20House/Historic%20Forest%20Grove%20Homes/

The greenish/grey one at 1703 Main street-Hoffman House, is my personal favorite. If I ever won the lottery, I don't care what I'd have to do, I'd buy that house, even if it weren't for sale. That is my "dream" house.

Okay, I better go now. I can go on and on about old houses, etc. Go figure, I was an art history major in college and I minored in Anthropology/archaeology. I love old things. There's so much to learn from them, know what I mean?

Circe Nightshade: hug in a mug :)[info]dee_groovy on February 20th, 2009 07:46 pm (UTC)
yes, exactly - just because it's common doesn't make it right. I think LJ just gotten so big there's too many idiots on there now :/

The Hoffman House is gorgeous - that was my favorite too, although the others were so beautiful! I also looked at the Forest Grove house pics - SO cute!! I just love the kitchen! :D

and you're right - I do find old houses much more 'homey'. Too many houses built nowadays are of the cookie-cutter variety :/

ooo, art history - that's sounds like such a fun major!

and I agree - I love old things, too - there's this flea market I like to go to that has antiques and old books (mostly paperbacks, but these are great). Lots of treausres to be found there :)
